Best thriller directors of all time - Number 4 - Christopher Nolan

Christopher Jonathan James Nolan was born on the 30th of July 1970 in London. Although his childhood was split up between Chicago and London so he has both American and British citizenship. Nolan began making his own movies at the age of 7! But in 1998 Nolan directed his first professional yet independent movie, Following. Which was not particularly popular until he released his second independent movie Memento in 2000, which brought him a great amount of attention and a number of Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.

Below is the trailer for a neo-noir psychological thriller made in 2000, which show two storys that play and meet in the middle at the end:

Nolan was then given a chance to direct the big-budget thriller Insomnia (2002) and later the lesser known movie: The Prestige (2006). Both received positive reviews from both critics and audience. However Nolan’s big break came from when he was given the chance to direct the big Hollywood blockbuster Batman Begins and the rest of the Dark Knight trilogy. He also wrote and directed the immensely popular psychological thriller Inception.

So far Nolan’s eight pictures have grossed more than $3.5 billion worldwide, received 49 nominations and 11 wins of Golden Globes, Academy Awards and BAFTA awards. His great movies have given him a reputation of being a very cerebral, often nonlinear story-teller. Whose movies often include psychological, ethical and intellectual concepts while also portraying a very interesting and attention grabbing story at the same time. He is now working on a sci-fi thriller named Interstellar, following a group of space travellers, travelling through space in a worm hole. It is said to be released in November 2014.
